Ways to Use Essential Oils in Complementary Therapy
Massage
This is the most effective way to use the massage oils, to enable them to be absorbed into the blood stream. However essential oils should not be used directly on the skin unless diluted by a carrier oil.
Bath
Essential oils are ideally suited for use in the bath, either individually or blended. Run a warm bath, add 4-6 drops and gently agitate the water to disperse the oil. Keep the door closed to capture the aroma and enjoy your soak for 15-20 mins allowing the oils to penetrate the skin. An aromatherapy bath is both enjoyable and therapeutic.
Room Fragrance
All essential oils readily evaporate and make ideal air fresheners. They can also be used to create different fragrances around the home and are ideal for banishing strong smells. Add 4-8 drops to a pottery vaporiser; add water to the bowl and place over a night-light. Alternatively add to drops to a light bulb ring or 3-6 drops to a saucer of hot water placed on a radiator.
Inhalation
Not suitable for Asthmatics. Fill a large bowl with very hot water, add 5 drops of oil, cover your head with a towel and breath slowly and deeply until relief is felt. 2 drops on a tissue is an alternative, it gives instant relief and is suitable for asthmatics.
Other uses
Compresses, footbaths, saunas, Jacuzzis, log fires, room spray, insect repellents, perfume, aromatic candles, skin and hair care.
